* What has surprised you in chpts 1-4?
* What is the role of medicine? How should it address aging and dying? Gawande says they are unfixable. Does that mean there is nothing to do about them?
Answer the following questions about the video.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/being-mortal/
1) What was the most optimistic part/message of the video?
2) Using your reading from a few weeks ago (pp. 74-82 on Dr-pt. models), discuss what kind of model was at play between the doctors and patients in Being Mortal.
I think the way Dr. Gawande talks about certain treatments being more harmful than beneficial to cancer patients is very interesting. With my mom having just finished her 6 months of chemotherapy for her lymphoma, it makes me question if there were any other options? Maybe options that would have been better for her? At the end of the day we go with what is familiar, but maybe what's familiar isn't always what's best? Excited to see the video when it releases.
